PANEL method
Submitted by laviniu on July 25, 2007 - 10:35
Can somebody from the Caedium team give more detailed information about the panel method implementation? Is it first order, second order? What boundary conditions does it use? What's the max size of the model it can handle? Does it make use of fast multipole method in the implementation? Is it a new panel method code or an adaptation of some older ones like Katz/Plotkin one, PANAIR (A502) or PMARC etc ?

Panel Flow Technical Details
Thanks for the great questions.
Our Panel Flow add-on for Caedium is a first-order potential-based panel method as described by Katz and Plotkin in their book Low Speed Aerodynamics. It solves for constant strength doublets. Constant strength sources incorporate the Dirichlet boundary condition for thick bodies.
Inlets and outlets are catered for by modifying the source strength to allow transpiration.
The model size is limited only by your available memory. The memory requirement, in bytes, for our panel solver is approximately equal to the number of surface panels (cells) squared and multiplied by 4 (size of a float). For example, to solve for 10,000 surface cells the solver requires 400,000,000 bytes or 381 Mbytes. The storage requirements of the geometry, mesh and flow solution are not included in this estimate. We have not implemented a fast multipole method.
Our wake model uses pseudo time-stepping for steady-state simulations and is time-accurate for unsteady (transient) simulations. For unsteady simulations you need to either use our Transient add-on or our Professional add-on which also includes our Panel Flow add-on.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the information.
Thanks for the information. It helps. I've signed up for the professional add-on subsription. I may not use the product on a regular basis because it happens I have another panel method to work with, CMARC which is a "C" port of PMARC code. I also have a Panair (A502) version. I'm going to definitely check my results I get from CMARC with Symscape from time to time to see if I get everything right. I wish you good luck and I hope you succeed. You had a really good idea about incorporating OpenCascade technology to solve your geometry problems. I've played with it too. It's a pretty powerful kernel.

Panair
Hello Laviniu
I am new to panair.. Just got the software from the pdas website. However, I don't understand how to model my geometry and use it for analysis.. I want to analyse the Blended wing body aircraft .Please can you tell me how to create the input file or send me some documents on a good easy to follow practical example.#
Kind regards
Paul
HELLO I HAVE TO SAME PROBLEM
HELLO
I HAVE TO SAME PROBLEM WITH PAN AIR.
NO BODY HELP!
