New Particle Animation Types

Progress on the next Caedium (v4) release is gaining steam, so it's high time for a sneak peek at some of the new capabilities. As you'll see, an idealized Dyson Air Multiplier Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation proved to be an excellent test case.

The results are in for our latest poll and from 166 visitors to the Symscape website an overwhelmingly number (49%) cited the price of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software as the biggest barrier to further CFD adoption. The second most cited concern (17%) was CFD software complexity.

Thanks to the effort and support of Wen-ming Ye from Microsoft, Caedium played a staring role at Super Computing 11 (SC11). SC11 is an annual gathering billed as the premier international supercomputing conference. This year's event was held in Seattle, November 12-18, and attracted record crowds - no doubt in eager anticipation of catching a glimpse of Caedium :-)

The term 'Cloud Computing' is a rather nebulous term that is open to interpretation, filling some with fear and others with delight. So in an effort to define what the cloud could mean for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, we undertook a feasibility study, sponsored by the Microsoft DPE team, to see how to couple Caedium with a cloud-based CFD simulation service. We chose to harness the strength of Caedium's interactive simulation setup and results visualization by keeping them close to the user on a local machine, and then outsourcing the intensive numerical CFD simulation as a Windows Azure cloud service.
